With the weather warming up and summer just around the corner, there has never been a better time to get back into some exercise.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or are just getting started, there’s nothing like a goal to get you motivated so why not sign up for the Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon on the 20th October?
If you’ve never taken part in a half marathon before – or any running event, for that matter – it can seem like a daunting task. I’ve put together this structured training plan, taking you right up to October 20th, aimed at complete beginners. Runners with more experience can still use this template but take some of the walk intervals out and incorporate more running.
Rest = Rest! Have fun with friends or family, have a lie in, put your feet up!
XT = Cross training (do something different – swimming, cycling, yoga, anything that isn’t running)
Run = Moderately difficult effort, out of breath but can hold a conversation.
Walk = Walk briskly, should feel relatively easy.
Park run = Free weekly 5km runs organised by volunteers across the world. These runs are timed and are a great way to measure progress. You’ll need to sign up for a bar code in order to get a time and further details can be found here.
