Blog: Snow and Sales

In our first blog we talked about how scary it is to start your own business, well one of the scariest things for an estate agent is the snow! Snow is the sworn enemy of selling properties. You want to go out and build snow men or go sledging, not view houses. Taking photographs to showcase our homes is almost impossible and normally the last thing on anyone’s mind is buying or selling.
However, despite the flakes that kept falling across Chesterfield, Dronfield and Sheffield, thingsat REDBRIK have continued to go well. We have now sold three houses and managed to get our lovely vendors at least the asking price on each occasion. We have had to disappoint a few buyers who have missed out, but we are hopeful of finding them something else soon.
The news from across the industry is also positive. Rightmove announced that traffic on their property portal is up 27% year on year, asking prices have stayed realistic and almost level with December listings, up just 0.2%. Certainly there are whispers that the property market might be thawing at last.
We are about to spread our wings and market our first property in Sheffield. Based from our Chesterfield office, it will be interesting to see how it goes and what the reaction will be. This is something we had always planned on doing, as we believe the way you market properties has changed. This might not be something that would have been considered even just a few years ago, but with the internet lowering geographic barriers, our feeling is that as long as the valuation is correct (fingers crossed there), the marketing literature is inviting and we continue to give excellent customer service, why not? We know the market, why should it matter where the office is based?
