Since the industry reopened in England last week ‘pent-up home mover momentum’ has reached fever pitch with people eager to view properties as well as booking market appraisals.
On the first day after lockdown restrictions were eased (Wednesday 13 May) Rightmove’s May 2020 House Price Index showed a four per cent, year on year increase in home-mover visits to the site (5.2 million).
Sales demand doubled from Tuesday 12 to Wednesday 13 May and rentals had the highest number of enquiries in a single day since September 2019 as demand surged industry wide.
The figures echoed a prediction made last month by our Managing Director, Mark Ross, that the property market would ‘boom’ once lockdown restrictions were lifted.
Here at Redbrik, the number of new applicants registered last week (w/c 11 May) was more than double the previous four-week average and valuations booked during the same period increased by more than 500 per cent.
Mark said: “Our diaries are getting booked up fast – it is certainly all systems go at Redbrik.
“We were effectively given less than 12 hours’ notice ahead of reopening last week, but we are very excited about what the future holds.
“During the lockdown period we spent lots of time adapting and planning for the future and have already implemented new services such as virtual viewings and valuations, which are proving extremely popular.
“I’ve said before that this period has been one of, if not the, most challenging periods ever faced by our industry. However, I believe that as a collective and as individuals we should all be better for it.”
